HAP 824: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis for Health Services Research (after 2024)
In this doctoral seminar, students will identify a current public health problem and conceptualize a systematic literature review to research the existing evidence on the problems’ causes, risk factors, interventions, or policies, then identify the gaps in the literature and explore appropriate strategies to address the problem. Quality assessment of research and meta-analysis will also be included. Students will learn to write a publishable systematic literature review manuscript.
HAP 824: Social Determinants of Health: A Multi-Level Evidence-Based Approach (2020-2023)
In this doctoral seminar, students will apply multi-level approaches to analyze public health problems through the lens of social determinants of health. Students will identify a current public health problem and examine its causes or risk factors at individual, interpersonal, organizational, community, and policy levels, and explore appropriate strategies to address the problem.
HAP 865 Health Services Research Seminar
This doctoral seminar builds students’ professional skills in research dissemination and career development. Students will learn hands-on experience on professional presentation, publishing research papers, translating research to practice and policy, and exploring career options after getting a Ph.D.
HAP 635: Role of Government in Health Care and Public Health
This is an MPH core course with a focus on health policy and law; it provides a foundation for how and why federal and state governments are involved in health care and public health. Students will learn the process of health policy making and how to analyze and evaluate health policies.
Current policies and political events are used for case studies and class projects. Students will learn how to write a health policy analysis report.

HPCH 672: Seminar in Public Health Intervention
This doctoral seminar is focused on the examination of the theoretical foundation, implementation and effectiveness of public health interventions from a multi-level approach. The emphasis will be on the translation from research to practice, understanding the elements of evidence-based ntervention strategies.
HPCH 642: mHealth: Mobile Technologies in Public Health
A graduate-level course that gives an overview of mHealth applications in public health settings, including telemedicine, EHR, public health informatics, consumer mHealth tools, HIPAA regulations in mHealth settings, and FDA guidance on mHealth devices.
HPCH 611: Public Health Program Planning
A graduate-level course that provides an in-depth review of public health intervention program design and implementation, with a special emphasis on evidence-based program, program implementation, evaluation, and dissemination.
